Blast Off! by Invisible Creature
July 10, 2012Blast Off! is brought to you by the fine folks at Invisible Creature.
“The inspiration for ‘Blast Off!’ comes from our grandfather, Al Paulsen, who worked as an illustrator for NASA for over 30 years. Because of him, we’ve always had a childlike awe of the cosmos (and drawing). We wanted to create something that celebrated the inception of a new idea, new sketch, or even a new day. For or all those young artists, old pros, astronauts, cosmonauts, designers & doodlers out there. To infinity … and beyond.” - Don Clark of Invisible Creature

Uppercase Magazine Collaboration
A creative and curious collaboration. We teamed up with Calgary’s Uppercase Magazine to produce a limited edition pennant series. Mini 4” x 9” pennants were sent by the magazine as thank you gifts to stockists and contributors, and the larger 12” x 30” pennants are for sale on their site.
The collaboration was great and we’re thrilled to be featured in issue #14 on page 70. The high quality magazine is available now. Check out a few images from our partnership, and contact us if you’d like to work together to make something great.

The final pennant we designed and printed for Uppercase.

Be sure to check out the process article on page 70 of the current issue (No. 14).

The final pennant hanging on the walls in the Uppercase studio. A special thanks to Janine for reaching out to us with a great idea and being a wonderful partner through the production process. Please contact us if you are interested in collaborating.

Cheers to Happy Hour!
June 12, 2012Raise a glass and toast to our newest pennant - Happy Hour!We asked Eight Hour Day’s Katie Kirk to let us in on some of her favorite cocktails, watering holes, and happy hour toasts. Here’s what she had to say:
Favorite after work cocktail?
Captain & Coke
Seeing as you’re cross-country travelers can you tell us a few of your favorite watering holes from around the nation?
So many great watering holes and so many new friends — it was amazing. We strangely ended up at a number of tiki bars on the road, including Forbidden Island in Oakland where we drank with Dave Cuzner from Grain Edit and Lab Partners as well as Tiki-Ti in LA.
Another fun night was drinking with the Public School boys. A night that included a round of BYOB mini-golf at Peter Pan Mini-Golf Course and after game drinks at the Barton Springs Saloon.
What’s your favorite phrase when you’re cheers-ing a drink?
a) down the hatch
b) plain ‘ol cheers
c) salute!
d) you tell us __________I’m going with (b) plain ‘ol cheers — I don’t think you can say it better than that!
So crack open a cold one with some friends. Whether you’re at a tiki bar or a dive bar, Happy Hour is now any hour with Eight Hour Day’s pennant! Use the promo code “happyhour” and save $10 on a second pennant of your choice. Now that deserves a cheers.

From our personal collection…
April 20, 2012Tim’s mom likes pennants!Although our parents don’t always understand what we do as designers, they are always supportive. The People’s Pennant has especially resonated with my mom. The last time she visited she brought (along with a bag of her customary homemade cookies) a bundle of felt pennants from her childhood. Each summer her family went on a series of adventures and each trip was commemorated with a pennant. Whether the destination was the Aquarama in Philadelphia, the 1967 Expo in Montreal, or The World’s Greatest Indoor Miniature World in Shartlesville, PA, these design artifacts remind her of the wonderful trips she took when she was a kid.
The pennants allow her to share her experiences with me, share stories, and celebrate memories. I attached a few photos of my favorites from the collection below. Enjoy!
If you have beautiful vintage pennants that you want to share, email us photos at submissions[at]thepeoplespennant.com. If we love them, we’ll post them on the blog.

We bring you: The People’s Pennant
March 14, 2012Rally around the small things in life!We are pleased to announce the launch of The People’s Pennant. We’ve worked hard over the past six months to craft the brand, and create a product that we are truly excited about. We hope you love it as much as we do.
The concept started as a simple one: celebrate things we love, and do it in a way that brings cheer to others. We also wanted to design something for people’s homes that isn’t presented in a standard poster format—don’t get us wrong, we love a good letterpress print—but we wanted to do something a little different. To arrive at a new idea we looked back to tradition, to an artifact that people have used to rally around triumphs and victories: the felt pennant.
Adorned with sports teams’ logos and colors, pennants have represented sports victories since the turn of the century, and to this day fans wave pennants and support their home team with pride. We are sports fans ourselves, but we thought, why not elevate the pennant from the confines of sports and give it back to the people? We want to celebrate everything in life, no matter how small, or seemingly trivial, things like reading, enjoying a hearty breakfast, and a cup of joe.
The designers have created amazing type treatments and illustrations that bring everyday activities, and humble joys to life on felt. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store in the coming months!
Factory TourThe factory has been in business since the early 1900s and the team members there were nice enough folks to show us around and let us in on the screen printing process. Many of their products are still made by hand, including pennants, patches, and other felt-y goodness. Being at the factory, and seeing all the amazing handcrafted products, made us even more excited to work with people who truly care about their craft. Check out our process shots below and watch the Factory Tour video to get an inside look at how the magic happens.
